Keepin' it Frosty!
[info]morienmacbain
Our listing as a theme camp is up of the Frostburn homepage, and the GPS hunt, the snowball siege, and the polar bear swim are up as well. What else shall we host while we're up there?

No baby yet!

Shane got a deer on Saturday night, so that made the 4th deer I've butchered this year! I think my record was 5 in one season, but that included late archery, so it was spread out over more time. Fkmediocrity came over to learn/help, which was a tremendous timesaver! Plus, it was fun to have someone to joke with and pass the time! Unfortunatly for her, it was the bloodiest one we've had - the bullet went right through the heart, *and* through both kneecaps. So a more messy job than usual. But over in 2.5 hours, with 28lbs of meat in the freezer!

I really hate to waste the hide on these, but my belly and back can't handle the hours of bending over the frame to flesh the hide. *sigh* Trying to make up for it by finally making all the other hides I've tanned into a big furry throw for our bed at pennsic. Should be cozy, and add a nice mongol feel to the yurt.

Wishing I could go for a run, as usual. I'd be lying if I said the belly was the only thing preventing me. The tiredness is the biggest thing. I drag through the day!

Frostburn's A-Comin'!

Shall we ask for the same campsite again?

Who's coming? Courtney and Shawn already have their tickets, and I'm getting mine this weekend.

It's time to get geared up!

So I decided after the last event I attended that I badly need some new sca garb. And why not some actually period garb! Like something made with documentation and carefully sewn to fit properly and accessorize and everything. I admittdly took the cheating route and decided on a Flemish outfit, in the same time period as April's, because she looks so great in hers and I really liked how it came out. So she was able to give me her links to documentation, which saved a lot of time and effort on my part!

Now the sewing part. I can always count on having problems when I've taken a few months haitus from tailor-type sewing projects. I have to remind myself to slow down! I ended up recutting and resewing the bodice part twice. Then I had to take it apart again to shorten it. And then I had to take apart all the cartridge pleats, redo them, and resew the skirt back to the bodice. I made a corded "bodies" (corset) that didn't end up working.

And here's the particularly frustrating part - I can't try anything on while I'm making it because of the belly!! I can't hem it because I can't even fit into it yet! April was kind enough to come over and be my model, which is how i found out the bodice needed replacing and then refitted. But it's disconcerting to be working on this and not be able to just try it on. Especially since I spent a pretty penny on all the materials and I really want it to look nice!

Long story, slightly shorter, I'm stalled at needing my model again. And I've given myself the due date for finishing this of BMDL 12th night on Jan. 23rd. Any bets on finishing it with a new baby in the house?

BB, btw, is "comfortably more than 8lbs", and showing no signs of leaving the cozy womb. It's got to be getting a little too cozy, my tummy is firm as a brick at this point. It's vastly uncomfortable to sleep, so I'm perpetually tired. This is new, though, I've been super comfortable right up to this week. Going to meet hildakrista for lunch, which means a nice long walk, maybe I'll shake him/her loose! I'm going to jog a few steps here and there too!

coulda been worse.

when you muse to the Universe you'd like to take a day off of work to make Christmas presents, sometimes it will provide the opportunity in the form of a car making impact and removing your back bumper. So, yeah. after I get back from the doc to look at my tweaked neck and drop the car at the shop, I guess I'll get my knitting day afterall. thanks Universe! yer a peach.

I could use some help brainstorming. steampunk. Shut up. I'm just thinkin' heyah to distract myself from the fact its 10 minutes to 4am and I'm awake..

So... If I say "Russian Countess Adventurer"- what sort of things do you see?

hormone therapy and women's libido
[info]bittibuddha
so one of the podcasts I listen to fairly regularly is "What Mom Never Told You" - and granted, the hosts are fairly young women with young womens' view of the world, but one of the recent topics discussed was whether birth control pills affected a woman's libido (by decreasing it.)

the upshot of the discussion was that scientific evidence was non-conclusive (as its practically impossible to discern a "norm" or "average" level of sex drive to start with...)

but I think it would be MORE effective to ask: "Of the women who would self-describe themselves as having a current high libido - are you on some sort of hormone-based birth control? (any form, including BC pills, the hormonal IUD, norplant or the Nuvaring?)"

that initial question ~could~ lead to a whole series of follow up questions, but as its not my intent to start a serious medical survey here - its just a random musing on the correlation between tweaking hormone levels and sex drive in women.
